Wireless router and modem compatability

I purchased a new Netgear wireless "N" type router, but have been unable to get a wireless connection with it. I spent several hours on the phone with ATT tech support, and am wondering if my modem (Siemens speedstream) is too old and isn't compatible with the new router. Do you have any suggestions?

Can you post the actual model of both the router and the wireless card you are using?
