Hello!
I'm planning to build myself a new system here in the next couple of months. I love the idea of having a desktop case as those just have seemed to be the easiest to move around from place to place (I REALLY need that ablity).
However... as I went to go shop for desktop cases... I found nothing but blandness. Every case I have come across is some basic pale white box! Are there any desktop cases that look slick and pimpful out there?! If anyone can point me to some I'd really appricate it! Thank you!
Probably the Palo Alto desktops are the best, as used by various OEM's, it's a high quality plastic case with steel lining and chassis. Roomy, quiet, easy to open, durable. Search Pricewatch, I've found them there.
You could probably find one at case depot. Their prices just seem a little on the high side. Maybe like a slim case or you might consider a rackmount. A rackmount might be going in the other direction in terms of bland though.
Desktop cases are pretty much out for a while now, they take too much space compared to the more common "upright" cases and they are way too limited with space when it comes to adding new components. Also they got poor ventillation, that might become a major problem down the road.
I would suggest getting a decent upright case and install handles or a strap on top of it for transportation. Just make sure the top is part of the frame, or screwed to the frame both front and back. Mine got screws on the back, the front simply slide under the bezel which would rip right out.
Don't buy handles in computer stores, just go to a hardware store and get the same thing there for ΒΌ or less the price of the computer store ones. Can get almost everything in other stores and pay less.
