I have an Nvidia GTX 460. I had been updating the driver about once a year to try to get a minor performance boost with newer games, but now I'm wondering if that is necessary. I've been getting a lot of random blue screens of death due to the newest graphics driver lately so I'm going to try to go back to a previous driver. Is there a best driver version for the Nvidia GTX 460 that I should stick with?
If you are getting a blue screen, it is likely due to your method of driver installation or a hardware problem. I would download the latest 314.07 WHQL driver from the Nvidia website, then do the cleanest install you possibly can. You could just install the drivers and tick off the "Perform a clean install" checkbox. Or, you could uninstall everything Nvidia manually through the Windows Control Panel, delete any Nvidia folders on your hard drive, restart, then install the new drivers using the Clean install mentioned earlier.
If you still have problems, check back and we can look at other issues that might be causing the problem (overclocking, power supply, defective components, etc.).
