Hello everyone,

I want to upgrade my GPU for a low level gaming rig. Will my stock PSU handle my HD 7750? (links below)

Computer : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883113089

PSU: http://www.ascendtech.us/gateway-lx6810-01-400-watt-power-supply_i_cspgatlx6810014.aspx

+

Desired GPU: http://us.msi.com/product/vga/R7750-PMD1GD5-OC.html#/?div=Specification

My computer has 1 additional case fan. Besides the fan it is entirely stock.

Will my PSU be able to handle the MSI 7750?

Thanks in advance.

You SHOULD be able to do so.

Not all Power Supplies are equal though, and sometimes an older PSU can die under an increased load even if the specs say it will be okay.

I'd be interested to know what games you intend to play. If you'd like some suggestions I can do that as well. Torchlight 2 has a DEMO you may wish to try.

I am currently playing Diablo 3, Torchlight 2, Portal 2, Team Fortress 2, Starcraft 2, Need For Speed: Most Wanted. (all in 1280x1024 with a Galaxy GT440 Gddr3 OC'd)

I would like to get this machine playing Black Ops 2, and the games above in 1080p with the MSI 7750.

the 7750 takes nearly the same power as your current card. So that is NOT an issue at all.

If you have an image of the power supply label. I would be interested to see the combined 12 volt current.

Either way. I would run a 7770 on a quality 300 watt power supply to be honest(and DO run a GTX 650 ti on one.).

Combine rails tend to look like this. 22 X 12 = 264 watts

or this 288/12=24A

I get under 300 with.

Regular board
the OPs cpu
7750
2 sticks of ddr 2(based on the age of the system)
2 regular SATA drives
1 ssd
dvd burner
8 bus powered usb devices
1 92mm fan(cpu)
2 x 120mm case fans(just for good measure)
90% load
15% cap aging

Seems good to go as long as the power supply is a quality unit :)
