Hello, found this forum the other day when trying to upgrade home wireless network. I'm looking at a dual-channel wireless-N router that transmitts at 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, but none of our newer laptops even recognize the 5Ghz channel. Is there a configuration setting to change what frequency laptops can recognize? Looking to put 2 newer modle Toshba loptops on the 5Ghz channel and leave two other...older systems on the 2.4Ghz channel. Any help would be greately appreciated. TIA.

there are no configuration settings or software updates to enable a network card, which is not designed to operate at that frequency, to do so

OK, thank you. What about an external USB wireless adaptor that is made to receive the 5Ghz freq...do they exist and would that work?

Thanks again emerald...wasn't sure these would work to connect on the 5Ghz freq band, but guessing that they will because they are advertize as dual-band wireless N recievers, the Netgear N900 wireless network adaptor in particular is very interesting because that is exactly the same model of wireless N router I just upgraded to. Is anyone using anything like this to connect a laptop to the 5Ghz band?
