My internet keeps changing networks

Hello,
i have a telstra usb internet stick and when i am not connected to the internet my network type is UMTS and when i connect it is HSPA after about 5 mins for some reason it swaps from a network type of HSPA to UMTS, this stops my internet working, what can i do to help?
