I'm looking into building a server for Minecraft and Ventrilo and have some questions.
Should I build from scratch?
If so, what parts are most important?
Will I be able to run both things on one server?

Thanks for responses!

50Mb/s + internet up and down for everyone.
SSD or RAID Setup
Xeon or a good cpu
I think those are the key things for running MC and Vent for JUST the server. The other parts I think you can decide.

That is a nice setup. Small, unobtrusive, gets the job done. Your looking at roughly 850ish for that setup (very roughly)..

If you have a basement that isn't being used check out this:

My dl380 is ridiculously loud... I thought chicks liked redundant fans and computer case lasers. I was unfortunetly misguided. They never wanna sleep over. But if you have some place to put this beast, you'll be getting what your looking for at a third of the price.

I came across MP motherboards and heard that they were good for servers. Would it help my server alot?

What kind of Internet connection do you have ?

You need to have good up and downstream connection to run a server. Most broadbands can't cope running a server for more than a few people.
