Wireless access point for verizon fios

Hello,
I'm trying to increase the strength of my Fios router (upstairs) to other parts of the house (particularly downstairs). Any new component would have to connect wirelessly. Connecting a second router or AP (downstairs) via an ethernet cable is not feasible. Powerline converters were tried but not successful. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!
