Yes they are releasing them, unsurprisingly they weren't planning on selling the 600 and 7000 series forever.

AMD just recently pushed back the release of the 8000 series till 4th quarter. this should allow Nvidia to have the newer cards coming out first.

IIRC Maxwell was slated for a 2014 release.

I thought that Maxwell would be released under the 800 series cards and the 700 series would be an upgraded Kepler (GK104-GK114) and apparently, from the information I have gathered, the higher end 770/780 would be using lower binned GK110 chips. I'm just curious as to when these cards might be released so I know when it would be a good time to sell my 2 670's so they still have a dollar figure to their name.

The lower binned GK110 is already out. They call it the Titan. It's not really a series of cards, just one expensive, powerful card.

I am aware of this, but I am really hoping that they stick with using the now; Titan GPU, GK110, for the higher end GPU's so that there is a good reason to spend the extra money rather than just a higher clock. But I also suspect and expect that you will be right.

I have seen talk of a price "scuffle" on the horizon.

The release of the HD 7790, again not from any major sources just forum browsing, is using the new GNC2 technology supposed to be used by the next generation 8000 series. It would e nice to see the 655ti use the GK114, to give a test on the architecture. Heck, I may just pick them up to give the benchmarks a go.

It will be nice to see some competition in the midrange market, seeing as that it is the largest market for GPUs. And if sales are good enough it can influence the higher end market to release the next generation sooner.

GTX 700 will not be Maxwell yet, it will be a better serie of Kepler videocards.

Almost definitely the 7xx series will be Kepler. There is NO way that nVidea has Maxwell ready, with how advanced they're going to be. Twice the speed of Kepler apparently. That'll be a good time to spend money, not necessarily on the 7xx series.

Twice the speed? Where did you get that from?

Not if you think the 8xxx series is going to be released as a desktop part you weren't.
