Powerline?

Is powerline the same speed as physical wired connection? Also, I live in an apartment with some old wiring, (15+ years). Will the performance be impacted?

No it is not remotely the same, and yes your speed would be heavily impacted. There isn't a good way to guess you would just have to try it to see what kind of speeds you would end up with.
