You can get a Radeon HD 7770 for that price and can play bf3 in Med to high

Yeah get a 7770 or 650ti

The following bench's was done with a highly overclocked Intel i7 so it may not be truly representative (i3 is fine for offline but online bf3 is mroe stressful for the cpu)
Settings are at ultra

A 7770 I agree is good at that price but watch your power consumption I noticed you only have 300 watts to play with and in the graphics department that's not alot. Also double check to make sure your power supply provides the correct 6 or 8 pin pci-e connectors to supply power to your new card. And to answer your question at the top of your post about battlefield 3, I wouldn't even consider it without a dedicated graphics processor like the one previously discussed.

my previous gpu was a 560ti, and i was playing at med-hi (mostly medium), it gives me 50-70fps, i traded some visual quality for a stable fps.

bf3 takes advantage of quads, it will help. 7770 is good, but i dont think it is that good. esp with your cpu.
if you want ultra you'll need 660Ti and above.

and note that bf3 can eat up more than 1gb of gpu memory. with my 670, its about 1.7gb when on ultra

Getting a higher tier card like the 660 Ti "MIGHT" result to a bottleneck as the OP is using a dual core i3 processor and will not fully utilize the power 660 Ti has. For the price, 7770 or the 650 ti is the best bet when paired with a dual core i3. In med-high settings, I think it won't consume that much of vram as the setting is not in Ultra. :)
