Lag problems on computer games.

When I am playing games such as Counter Strike: Source or Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 or any other multiplayer FPS game I have lags, they jump to 400 ping.
I have:
GeForce 7800GTX
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Gigabyte P35-DS3L
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6750
Memory 2G RAM

My Network interface controller is bought from Edimax and my router too.
IMPORTANT INFO: my fps is high 200-150 average.

I would like to know if my lag problem comes from my Internet Card, Router or something else,

Thanks in advance,
James :hello:

  1. how fast is your internet? what type is it? do others use your network? Are there other programs that might use the internet while you are playing?
  2. 12Mb, what do you mean by type?
My brother using it exactly like me (connecting to a router) and he got no problems, no lags at any game, and no programs are using the internet.
  3. I'm not sure if this still works, but if you can access the games console via the ~ key, then type this in the console:

    net_graph x

where x is between 1 and 3 inclusive. net_grapgh 0 turns it off.

This works with a lot of Valve's games.
  4. Are you running anything in the background, what type of internet do you have (DSL, cable, etc)?
  5. Hawkeye22
It happens in non Valve games too, but i'll try it in CSS hope it works.
I don't have anything running in the background and my internet type is Cable.

Cable suffers from lag spikes because it is a shared connection. Not much you can do about it.
