GPU Confusion

Alright, I want a really good gpu and was looking at the ASUS GTX 670 since its still really good but kind of cheap. I heard it was better than the 680 when its overclocked so I plan on doing that. Recently, I heard that the 7970 is better than the 670 but cheaper.

I have been looking around saying 7970 is better than 670 and 680. Others are saying the 670 is the best of the two.

Can someone please help me so I can finally get some sleep? It's been bugging me

The 7970 is quite stronger than the 670, and when overclocked it completely trounces it. I have seen this first hand.

Price/performance wise, the 7970 is a beast, and it is as strong as a 680 (Which the 680 is slightly stronger than the 670 btw).

P.S. The 7970 GHz Vapor-X is the strongest card out now if you that is what you are looking for.

In terms of price.. 670< 7970< 680

In terms of Raw speed .. 670<680<7970

In terms of driver stability (Arguably) 7970<670/680

They are all excellent cards but the 670 is better for PRICE PERFORMANCE over the 680, but not a faster card. The 7970 is also a better PRICE performance over the 680 and it is faster too, but some just like Nvida and some just like AMD.

Thank you. I'll look at this GPU. AMD isn't my preference ): mainly because I haven't dealt with AMD Drivers at al so I don't know what that's like.

Thank you. This helps a lot. I want a 670, just because its with NVIDIA and I like them a lot. 7970 seems reasonable I guess. I'll look into AMD more for sure especially the prices and how to find something around the price of the 670 I'm currently looking at.

Good luck with your choice. I don't think you can really make a bad one here, as they all are very nice.

It's not like you're going to be unhappy with either a 670 or a 7970 - both will max out games at 1080p and 60fps with ease.

I'm looking at fps differences between the 670 and 7970. Mainly looking at crysis just for a benchmark. I don't play it but if the 670 can get pretty good fps on it while not being too far behind the 7970 then I might just stick with that.

Here is a chart you can look at. It doesn't have the 670 on it, but it does have the 7970, 680, 660, and 660 sli. The 670 will be just a bit behind the 680 in most cases and ahead of the 660 in all cases. Notice the HIGH resolutions on this chart. If you will be at 1080, the FPS will go up from this chart.

Nice chart - the 670 should perform within 7% of the 680, and the Nvidia cards will trail the AMD card by even less on lower resolution. (AMD tends to do better with higher resolutions.)

This helped a lot! Thank you. I looked at a lot of benchmark pictures but one will show the 670 beating the 7970 in most games, 7970 beating the 670 in most games, or close fps. I trust someone actually replying to me than just basing my choice of a picture with no recommendations. I'll just stick with the 670 right now since it's cheaper and doesn't look too far behind the 7970. It, also, helps that most of the games I have are on that chart. Again, thank you. GPU search is finally done lol :D

That's good because I only plan on going to 1920 x 1080 resolution. 2-3 monitors is too many for me. lol
