Get 2x 7970's I have a gtx 690 and it DESTROYS every game at 1080p but it doesn't have enough Vram for 1440p to run every game.

Titan doesn't make any sense for gaming it's much slower than 690. Even 1 x 7970 would perform similar to a Titan in gaming and cost only 30% of the price. 2 x 7970 in Crossfire will smoke the Titan in gaming and still cost less.

The only reason to go with a Titan is if you run CUDA simulations and you use OpenCL and OpenGL 3D applications (like Solidworks, Catia, etc...) AND you also want to game on the same machine. Then, in some rare situations like that, Titan can make sense.

You only said what type of monitor you have, but you didn't say what you're doing with the machine, is it only for gaming?

I'm confused, by "DESTROYS every game at 1080p", do you mean loses by 9%?

At higher resolutions (below), 2% is a wash, but with the GTX 690, you get a much quieter and much more efficient system with better overall airflow, and better driver support.

Quote from the review posted by BigMack:
"Looking at other contenders for a moment, you'll find that you simply don't need a GTX 680 2-way SLI when you can just buy a GTX 690 that runs quieter and saves an expansion slot because the price-performance ratio of a 3-way GTX 680 configuration is bad. AMD's HD 7970 GHz Edition CrossFire setup has its moments, but flunks far too many tests due to poor multi-GPU driver optimizations by AMD."

But this is 2013, the year that reviewers really started to embrace frame latencies as a more accurate measure of how well a card performs. That is where the Titan shines.

Quote:
"When it comes to a consistent gameplay experience, the TITAN is head, shoulders and knees above its compatriots. The low standard deviation shown between frame times is a fraction of what other solutions offer, which in turn leads to significantly smoother onscreen performance. For example, the GTX 690 exhibits many of the issues normally associated with dual GPU cards like minor stuttering and outright frame hesitation, a situation the TITAN deftly avoids by virtue of being a single core solution. Gamers won’t have to wait for the latest SLI profile for optimal new game support either. So while the GTX 690 may outclass the TITAN in terms of raw framerate production, the GK110 clearly holds the edge this key area.

Even though it is a single GPU solution, AMD’s HD 7970 GHz just isn’t in the same league as the GeForce TITAN. Its comparative frame times border on abysmal and no amount of overclocking will improve that fact. Had AMD addressed the stuttering in key games like Far Cry 3 and Hitman Absolution (both of which are Gaming Evolved titles I may add) we could be having a very different conversation right now, especially considering the GHz Edition’s strong framerates."

That motherboard doesn't have enough room to crossfire a pair of Matrix cards and still have space between them so that the top card can breathe.

Also, while I understand the conclusions of the hardwarecanucks and TPU results posted above, 2 things are worth mentioning:

1) In the TPU review, the only times where CF doesn't work and where that matters is in Assassin's Creed 3 and in Batman: AC. In SC2, Skyrim, and WoW, framerates on even a single card are high enough that it doesn't matter if CF isn't working (btw CF 7970s work fine in Skyrim for me so I dunno what issue they had). So, there's no reason to be unduly harsh on 7970 CF for poor game support.

2) 7970 CF frametime issues are almost nonexistent with use of a framerate limiter like Afterburner or RadeonPro.

It's not an ideal situation because if you're in a game where you can't output a constant 60fps, you'll lose out on a bit of framerate as you'll have to limit it to around your average fps, but it's still worth noting.

So yeah - 7970s have drawbacks but they're way overblown IMO in reviews like the ones posted above. None of these solutions are perfect:

1) Pair of 7970s = fastest but needs a framerate limiter most of the time and will require the most troubleshooting
2) 690 = fast but has potential vram problems and may still have some of the drawbacks of 7970s
3) Titan = no real problems but easily the slowest of the 3 setups.

If you have to use a framerate limiter, wouldn't that lower it so it is no longer the fastest?

It might be worth noting that Titan would have the least latency, for what that is worth.

670's would also be a viable solution.

And with the crossfire problems, they may or may not have any issues with v-sync on. The issues described are without v-sync. Unfortunately, no one ever reviews with v-sync on. Pcper.com, the ones that brought it out in the open, about the crossfire issue, plans to include v-sync comparisons when the release the full article described here, so that'll be good to know.
