External Graphics Card For Laptop - With ExpressCard Adapter?

Something similar to this has been posted on this last year. (For reference, here: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/368400-33-external-graphics-card-laptop-expresscard-adapter) I didn't want to sift through that to find current info and info relevant to my situation (though I did, kinda which is where some of the links come from). I want to upgrade my Toshiba Tecra A9-S9018X with more video RAM. I don't need anything else to run the games I want to play, so I think it would be a waste to buy a whole new computer just to have a place to put a graphics card. I'm thinking I'll just get something like this: http://www.hwtools.net/Adapter/CBECA_C03.html and just plug a video card into it. It doesn't seem that simple though, as I have found sites like this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/e-gpu-external-graphics-discussion/418851-diy-egpu-experiences.html#prosandcons with a really nerdy setup. I think that cards like the one mentioned wouldn't be made if they didn't work, right? How well do ExpressCard Graphics card adapters work? (And if someone has the mentioned card and knows how that works that would be appreciated.) And if there is any other way (besides soldering a new card onto my motherboard) to add RAM, that would be appreciated as well.

As little as possible. $200 would be my max. The adapter-thingy I mentioned above is $50. Will that adapter work with my computer (or is it good enough to work well at anything)? That's the main question here: I shouldn't need much, or any, more than the adapter, right?

You also need PSU to power the GPU and the GPU itself.

You link to an ExpressCard to PCMCIA adaptor. You need mPCIe to PCIe adaptor.

I'm confused. What do I need? I at least need the adapter I linked to, right?
