I would not say the 660 is overall faster then the 7870, maybe in those select few games (5 game review vs 20ish game review)

The 7850 is defiantly slower than the 660 though

Same bench as dj but in img form :p

*GAMES*
Don't forget the two free games with the HD7850 (Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider). Both are AWESOME games though Bioshock I think isn't out yet).

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_3709...

ALSO:
- the HD7850 has a better cooler and is OVERCLOCKED so the charts shown aren't completely accurate.

SUMMARY:
The HD7850 (overclocked with games) is by FAR the best deal.

The 660 gtx is also overclocked from factory, the 7850 is slower, you can find all the reviews showing it, in terms of performance, that's what i think the op was asking, the 660 gtx is better, if you'd seen the recent article that i linked(not my fabrication), the 660 gtx even beats the 7870 in frametimes, the 660 gtx is fine with the stock cooler, you cant compare temperatures of different cards.
And the op only wants one of the two models in amazon.

Hey OP, if you;re willing to consider other 7850's this gigabyte one is a great option, unlocked voltage and all, using it myself, it's also $25 cheaper

I wouldn't consider the uk review unless you're looking to play those games specifically

Just to clarify, of the two(msi 7850 and the evga 660) the 660 is the better buy, 660 also have the f2p in game money if you like those games and likely resell able

the frametimes between the 7870 and 660 on the review is very small compared to each other. very few users will notice that small step of a difference.

If it wasn't for the two free games I'd likely recommend the GTX660.

However, despite his request for no recommendations I still felt obligated since I found the same card cheaper at NCIX or an HD7870 for the same price.

Back to the games, the full price for both is probably $120 so if was going to buy them anyway that makes the HD7850 (or the HD7870 I linked) $100.

I have to say, the amd offers pretty good games, but i was talking only in terms of performance.
Even in crysis 3, the 660 gtx beats the 7870, which is an amd game : http://www.techspot.com/articles-info/642/bench/High_02...

I hesitate to call Crysis 3 an AMD game, more like a game AMD has bundled with it's cards

I find crysis games more biased towards nvidia cards usually

the reason why crysis 3 is sort of an odd one out in the AMD gaming evolved program is that it did not originally start off as one. AMD rep on OCN even stated that Crytek slapped on the AMD Gaming Evolved title near last minute. their time together wasn't as long as with the other devs.

Interesting read on Tomb Raider, wonder how much of AMD's bad release drivers were due to the same issue but AMD not speaking out about it

http://techreport.com/news/24463/nvidia-acknowledges-to...

It is really the amount of time that the Devs have to work with Nvidia and AMD. Square enix in general supports AMD's endeavor(Sleeping Dogs, Hitman Absolution, Tomb Raider just as more recent examples) and the work with tressfx could have possible limited the amount of time nvidia got to work with the devs for this case in particular.

One of the possible explainations is basically what AMD is pushing for right now. AMD is attempting to push heavily on their public relations with gaming devs, which is why there have been a drastic spike of AMD Gaming Evolved titles pouring in. With AMD's contract with presumably all of the console devs, AMD will basically be working with them nearly all the time. Nvidia's approach right now is slightly in a different sector. Nvidia approached it in a few ways:

1)Nvidia is appealing to the highest end and released titan. its because of above that AMD did not put priority into trying to beat titan, a card aimed at a small minority.
2)Current Free2play, with their promotion of Planetside 2, World of Tanks and Hawken, nvidia is working with f2p devs, which tbh, is where a good chunk of the market will head into. even crytek says that the market will lead to f2p models
3)their mobile market. nvidia is still working on their tegra chips for hte mobile market and is still wokring with their project shown at CES, Nvidia Shield.
4)allowing consoles to use physx(meaning that the amd gpus in the consoles will have physx)

basically both companies are looking at different sectors in the market. on tech sites like these, AMD's actions are slightly more apparent as their target audience generally targeted the general gamer, where nvidias target was a bit different for this current point of time.
