GTX 680MX vs HD 5870

Hi, I'm trying to decide between getting an iMac or a Mac Pro. I wanted to ask how the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX (iMac) compares against the HD 5870 (Mac Pro). Is either significantly more powerful than the other?

Wait... is that the mobile version of the 680? If so then their performance would be similar. According to toms charts, the 680m is still a bit better than the 5870.

The GTX 680mx is a bit faster than the 5870. A tier or 2 higher in the GPU chart (GPU chart only has GTX 680m).

But the Mac Pro is a much newer model (not sure how that affects Mac OS) and uses MXM GPU, so even if the older hardware can be upgraded to the newer Mac OS, the newer iMac saves you a lot on electricity with slightly better performance. The GTX 680mx, because it is an MXM card, it also has a much higher resell value (but much smaller market) than the PCIe 5870.

It is indeed the mobile version of the card, since they made the iMac so thin they had to use a laptop style video card, lol
