PCIE 2.0 compatible with PCIE x16??

My friend is planning to buy a gpu and put it on his old rig
SPECS:-
Intel Dual Core E2160
1 GB ram
Gigabyte G31M-S2
GPU planning to buy ASUS NVIDIA GT 630 2GB
I checked out the specs of his mobo it got one PCIe x16, i guess i.e PCIe 1.0. But the card requires 2.0. Is it compatible with 1.0

With a 630 there will be no performance loss

1.1 is compatible with 2.0 and 3.0 and vice versa
Here are the 680 and 7970 which are 3.0 cards running on 1.1

My bro is running an HD2600 which is 2.0 on an 1.1 MB

    is PCIe x16 = PCIe 1.1??
  4. AFAIK the g31 is with pcie 1.1, very very few motherboards had pcie 1.0a

Here from wikipedia, it shows the g31 as having pcie 1.1 x16

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_chipsets#Core_2_chipsets

Regardless 1.0a works with pcie 2.0 and 3.0 as well
