My sister-in-law arrived today for a visit and announce that she has a "project" for me:(
It's an old Compaq Contura 486 laptop that she would like to get working for her parents just for e-mail and word processing.
It has Win 3.1 on it and I would like to replace that with Win 95 and I think I have an old version of Word around somewhere.
Unfortunately it doesn't have a cd rom. Any ideas on how I can get it formatted and install the new os, etc.?
Tia for any info.

I can think of a few possibilities:

Install a CD-ROM (depending on the mainboard.)

Download a copy of Win95A on floppy disks ... it originally shipped on floppy disks. Windows 95 Floppy Download

Take the hard drive out, temporarily put it in another machine as the Primary master, format, and install Win95. Reinstall in the Compaq. Add the drivers.

See ya ...
