should i purchase the D740X fluid bearing or ball bearing? i'm planning to get a 80GB on either one of them...i prefer quietness...but i heard that the fluid bearing has problems...is this true?...cuz i don't want it to die on me...

thanks for reading this!

I think the problems raised about a month ago were BS. I haven't heard any problems with the drive from a reputable source.

The fluid bearing is made for other reasons other then noise. It's also made because a ball bearing isn't fully round. For that reason on a standard ball bearing the platters don't spin perfectly which can cause abnormal wear and tear. The fluid bearing fixes that so that the bearings are incased in fluid so they can spin more round!
