Why cant I connect to the internet with my desk top

You'll need to supply a bit more detail -- what router, what desktop adapter, what OS?

Does the desktop show a working Ethernet adapter in the device manager? Is the desktop networking configured to automatically obtain an IP address? What output do you get when you type ipconfig into the command prompt box?
