I got to thinking about this. What is holding everyone up? Money? PCI-EX? Etc...
I want to buy one of the new GFX cards and my big monitor that I've been procrastinating to buy but it kinda pisses me off that PCI-EX is right around the corner.

I wanna get the newest thing when it comes out. I figure the NV45 will not be worthwhile since it will be a revised NV40 core and thus insignificant improvement over the NV40. Since I am not upgrading now, I will thus have to wait till NV50 (summer of next year right). It will be an expensive computer for college. O, also, any new stuff going on in the HDD area...I'm expecting competition for the Raptors and or better versions. DDR2 667 will be out by next summer right?

I've been waiting to upgrade for a few months now. Put it off just before xmas, now I want a new system in place before we move, so it should be in a few months time. Rather than on previous upgrades, where it's been a new motherboard and CPU, then a little later on, memory etc, I'm replacing the whole rig.
Not sure about A64. Might just plump for an XP3200 with 400MHz fsb, stick an nForce 2 mobo in and 1GB of either Corsair of GeIL, a WD Raptor and a R9600Pro.
Seen a nice Hyundai 19inch CRT. <A HREF="http://www.hyundaiq.com/pro_q995.asp" target="_new">Here's the specs</A>. I like the look of that.
So many choices though.

I think PCIX is not going to get there until late fall.
For me I want a socket 939 with the new Nforce board, along with a A64. The new Nvidia vid card & a gig of some fast RAM. That's going to be the sweet gaming system of the year this year, I believe.

Up and about early today RC!
Socket 939, is that Athlon FX51?

For now it is yes.
Me it's money and an already decent computer. I'll wait until 939 comes out, go with an A64, and see what the new ATI card does.

Morning, yea a tad early!
Right now the A64's are Socket 754 & the FX 51 & 53 are Socket 940. They are going to Socket 939. S 939 is going to be out awhile. I think it's the Nforce 250 chip set that's just been released, but aren't fully available. Once that settles out about June July time frame, that's going to the way to go I believe. At least that's the way I want to go. This year though funds are tight for me. I may just squeeze out the new 6800 vid card. Time will tell.
Far Cry has a beta 64 bit you can download & run the game now. It says when MS releases the OS they will release the final version 64 bit. So my feeling is there are games ready to with 64 bit now.

RC , hows your game running now .
The man of steel said that
It's running all right, thanks for the file. I still think it's choking my 4600 worse than I even thought it would. The game has me hooked. I can't seem to leave it alone. My shoulder is killing me from all the gaming I've done since I got it!

Seems like its running fine on my 4200 , but i am not a big gamer and may not notice the differance . Hay guess what i got the boat anchor off , and instead of a big cast i got a thing called a boot . It looks like a motorcycle boot , and can take it off everyonce and awhile . Can't move around with it off but can scratch it if i want to . I like it .

That's about what I'm running now. I got the A7N8X deluxe when rev. 2.0 came out. I put the 2500 on it with a gig of Kingston Hyper X. Also put in the TI4600. I have an unlocked Barton & run it at 2800 speed with a 12.5 multiplier. It's 333 FSB tough. Sweet system, don't get me wrong. That's my other way to go, slap the 3200 on this board & take it to the max. What are you running now?
One thing that bugs me about the new Nvidia chip sets is they took out SoundStorm audio. That's a drag, really. I'll have to buy a good sound card for the S 939 boards, adding more cost to the build. It's just so nice having SoundStorm onboard, I hate to mess with a sound card again. [cough] Creative!! [/cough]

I'm glad to hear that for sure!!! Hope that it's not bothering as bad now for you & you've just got to give it time to heal.
I'm a nit picker when it comes to gaming.
I've got Fraps running & I don't think I'm going below 50 FPS. I can't see the good stuff though. Crank up the Environment toggle in the game. Then go in & see the birds flying, fish swimming, & the waves breaking on the shore. Sweet looking!!! I crash if I play there long. Dam, it's fun blowing away those birds!

Ha ha , i haven't even tried changing the settings yet . Guess i will have to give it a try and see what happens . Ya i feel a lot better since the boat anchors off , i can get out and around now . Its still a pain in the arse though haveing to use crutches . OOOOO the daughters been riding the horse , think she finally got the bluff on the horse instead of the horse having the bluff on her ha ha .

My current rig is an XP2200, Asus A7S333 mobo, 512Mb Crucial RAM, Radeon 8500 64Mb. It's not bad , but UT2004 is starting to cane it a little, I'm noticing lag at certain points of the game when it has to work overtime to process me fragging all the bots. As more and more DX9 games come out, I'm gonna get hammered, I know.
I've tweaked and patched my machine as much as I can, it's just started to feel the pinch with UT2004.
<font color=blue>"If Little Red Riding Hood shows up with a bazooka and a bad attitude, I expect you to chin the bitch." - Sean Pertwee</font color=blue>
Well the the Nforce & 400 FSB would give you a boost & the price can't be beat right now. Could grab a top vid card in that machine. Stick in another 512 RAM. It would be sweet!
A A64 machine is going to cost more up front, but has the 64 bit built in. I think it's going be a potent force in gaming & other things. These are going to scream I believe.
I'm torn up myself. Max. out this board, or go A64. If I was working, it would be A64 without question.

Yes, money for me too.
Contemplating whether or not to get me a new babe, old one decided to leave me for another man. Guy paid me $25 to use her, so I let her run off with him.
Course, another reason why I'm still here doing a rusty one is the heat. Can't let the relationship get too hot, trouble ain't what I'm looking for.
Heck, ol' rusty here just ain't got it in her no more either, never was good to begin with, just enough to get me by I suppose.

Mainly money, but also the fact that I have a pretty good system at a pretty good price...
I got an Asus A7N8X Revision 1 with an Athlon 2400+ overclocked a little. Going to a new processor would help a little, but not a ton, especially since my mobo doesn't support 200 MHz officially.
I got an MSI Ti4200 that overclocked very nicely... For a new video card that would make a significant difference, I am looking at $200+.
The system gets me through what I need it to. I don't need to run games at 1600 x 1200 x 32 bit with all graphic options turned on... When I get my new system I may, but not right now...

I have a K7S5A with a 2400+ at 2.2Ghz (small oc) with 512MB of PC2100 a R9600np, and a pos 19" monitor.
I'm set on getting a new top end vid card and a 22" NEC 2111. That much I know. The problem is that PCI-ex is so close that spending that much on a AGP card bugs me. Is the performance difference going to be huge?
I also kinda want to get a 4Ghz machine and 2GB of memory. From what I understand 2GB right now is actually a bottleneck.

The IQ is so much better on the new cards. You worked all summer. I don't know about FPS, but a $100 card would look better.

Another moment of indecision. Been looking on the site I sometimes buy off, and they have an nForce 3 150 mobo. Now, not being too knowledgable on all things A64, I seem to recall this is the better chipset than purely nForce 3?
It's not a bad price, and I am tempted to go down this route, alas it's not an Asus board, which is a bit of a bummer. Gigabyte, which I've used before with so-so results (mainly due to a horrid Via133 chipset and a GF2 card).
So many decisions.........

I am not 100% sure, but I believe the nForce3 150 was the slightly slower board. The good one out is the nForce3 250 that was just reviewed. Check the article on Tom's.

Yea, Jef is right. The 150 was beat out by the VIA chip set. Forget the #'s right now, but VIA is faster than the 150. The 250 is the one. It's just getting into production & is real hard to find. It'll be readily available in 2, 3 weeks. I'd go with the 250 over any of them now, myself & ASUS is my brand BTW.
Here's the <A HREF="http://www.tomshardware.com/motherboard/20040420/index.html" target="_new"> link </A> to the review here on Tom's.

Yeah, I've seen the reports, but there's only a handful of A64 boards available in this backwater country of ours, and it'll probably be months and months before nForce3 250 hits the shops here. No one is carrying the SiS board over here, either. Bummer really, 'cos I like their chipsets. Very stable and reliable.
<font color=blue>"We didn't underestimate them. They were just a lot better than we thought." - Bobby Robson</font color=blue>
Yep, Asus is the only one I'd run with and have utter confidence in. All rigs I build have Asus boards. Think I'll let the market get a little more populated and then make a move. with the A64 3700 out in the summer, it should push the 3400 price down, then it might be the optimal time to strike.

I used to be all Ausu (P5A, A7V, A7V133, A7V266-E, A7N8X, Asus V7700 Deluxe (GeForce2 GTS). My last video card was an MSI Ti4200, and it has kicked ass. I wanted to buy an MSI motherboard for my daughter's PC, but when I went to order, it looked like Newegg was out and wouldn't be getting them back in, so I ordered a Shuttle Mobo (nForce2 w/ 400 MHz bus). From what I read, it should be OK, and if it gives me any hassle, I will exchange for MSI, which was, of course, back in stock before my order shipped!! I'd like to try an MSI mobo, but I don't know if I want to go that route for an Athlon64 or not... Well, I will just have to wait and see what comes out.
