ME again. Another prob we are having with my in-laws computer is BSODs coming up out of the blue (no pun intended).
The two main ones are VxD exceptions: SYMEvent (02) + 00001FB8 and a stack overflow problem. The latter states that a VxD has consumed too much space. It tells me to increase the settings of MinSPs in the SYSTEM.INI, which are currently at 4 SPs allocated.
Anyone know what the causes of either of these errors might be?
Is changing the MinSPs something I want to be doing, or is there another way of taking care of this?
Thanks in advance.

I forwarded those links to my bro-in-law, and he will check them out and get back to me on it. I didn't check them myself, as my work P-133 is taking way to long to load anything, nowadays.
Toe, I was talking with him about anti-virus programs, and remembered that you had posted one that you were fond of (at least, I think it was you). I think it was Panda something or other. Would you be able to post your fave AV prog, since I think we are both going to be looking into non-"bloatware" programs.
Thanks!

Out of the two, I think Panda may offer slighter better protection, but PC-cillin is less of a memory hog. My only objection to Panda is that running it all the time isn't really an option because it is so memory-intensive. And so, for "Set It and Forget It Protection", PC-cillin. For a more advanced user with a low-risk system who prefers running scans manually, Panda.
I like Panda, for me ... but I am not the sort of person who neglects getting updates or running scans, and I'm highly unlikely to open up strange email attachments. But that's not the norm for a large majority of users ... so that's something to consider.
I used to run Norton exclusively, but after several major, unexpected, and unnecessary problems with SystemWorks 2001 in Win2K, I finally gave up with battling any software conflicts that came as a result of each new installation as the program was upgraded each year.
I purchased the download of Panda Antivirus Titanium and so far I like it. I'm not sure how much of a memory hog it is, but it certainly seems like it's less than Norton 2002 was. I let it run in the background at all times and it doesn't seem like it's slowing me down. Thanks for introducing me to it Toe!

We have that here at work, and, while it is not the program's fault, it is not designed to run on a P-133 running Win95 w/ 32MB. Ugh . . . it is soooooo slow. Plus, the Powers That Be don't trust us enough to scan our own drives, so, once a week, it automatically scans. I have to leave my computer for an hour! Meanwhile, those in the office who are fortunate enough to have PIIIs don't even notice it is running.
OK, now that I have that out of my system, I will forward the link to my bro-in-law. Like I stated, nobody on the faster systems notice it, so I guess it will work well on my in-laws system. As for me, I will try Panda, since I like to be a control frea . . . er . . . in control.
Thanks for the links, Toe.

Well, ya know ... I did feel obliged to offer up more than one solution for your perusal. A Door Number One, Door Number Two kind of thing ... especially after subjecting you to my beer-sucking ditty, which in retrospect, is slightly embarrassing! (But I really do hum the darn thing, whether I like it or not.)
Panda all around, Waiter, for us control freaks ... and the drinks are on me!
S'okay 'bout the song . . . my bro-in-law thought it was pretty funny, except that I had to sing the original because he is not familiar with it. (I just don't know what it is with Brazilians not knowing our good ol' American folk songs . . . sheesh!)
That, and I am not the greatest singer.
Oh, well.
Back to my researching . . . so far, it looks like I am going to order the Maxtor 80GB Q drive, a Thermaltake chassis fan, some of them aluminium ( I have an aunt who is very Scottish) filters you recommended, and a Enermax 350W FC (don't think I need the "A"djustible exhaust fan).
I still need to figger out which controller card and DVD/CD-ROM I am going to buy, and also if I should invest in a HDD fan. Although, I was looking in the case last night, and the genius who constructed it put the A: smile in-line with the middle of the three 3.5" bays! What a doofus!!! If the HDD fan is going to make it too tall, I will have to mount the HDD under the 3.5" bays. What a headache! (Yes, all three of my 5.25" bays are filled.)
Oh, well . . . I'm gone.
