Using a network switch

Ok so Im looking to increase the speed of communication between my computers in my house...I have a central pc that is like a server where I keep all of my movies and music and stuff and i would like to stream that content to other computers. With my current setup which is 4 computers hooked up directly to the comcast provided router I have trouble using homegroup to watch movies on other computers. What I am thinking about doing is installing a switch in my network.....Basically run one ethernet from my router to the switch and then hook up all of my computers to the switch via ethernet...My question is would this work? would all of my pcs that I hook up to the switch be able to access the internet...if so would they be able to do that at the same time? thanks for ur input.

It should work just fine. Get a Gigabit capable switch, they are pretty much all the same, but don't get it from Bestbuy or Staples, you will overpay dearly.
