Lan card problem in windows xp

Hello,
Suddenly my internet connection is not working,i thought there is a problem with net connection(ISP),but expert reviewd and said that you have to change your lan card,is it so?
What i have to do now?shall i change lan card?
Is there any life time for lan card?

Who's the expert? Some 10 year old from next door or a service technician from your ISP? If it was the service technician, then purchase a new network card. They aren't that expensive.
