HD dies twice.. Heat to blame??

Last response: in Storage

hey
my western digital has died twice in 2 months
i could just have bad luck, but i was thinking maybe it was heat.. but i don't know
in my case i have an 8 gig and the 60 gig(the one that breaks) right next to each other and my floppy

what should I do? I know they have heat sinks for hds, but they are like 30 bucks
i was looking at the 15 bucks range
how can i fix this problem??

More about : dies heat blame

Put the floppy between the two HDDs (if your case will allow - it makes for a nice heat sink. And since you'll only use it once or twice a year and it only costs $10 to replace should it die, it is within your budget. No, seriously, I do exactly this (plus make sure I have adequate air-flow).

I thought a thought, but the thought I thought wasn't the thought I thought I had thought.

i have my floppy in between my two 40 gig 7200rpm drives to keep em nice & cool. However, if you want active cooling, you can get a fan kit that will mount it in a 5.25 slot for about 15 bucks. (1 hd only)
