I am wondering if I can hook my VisionTek TI 2 s-video out to my receiver then to my TV so I can use my TV as a monitor. Well actually I did try and it didnt work, so I'm just curious if it HAS to go to the TV. Does it not reconize the receiver? When I unplug the S-video from my receiver... it takes away my option to use TV. When I plug it back in it gives me that option back. It must be getting some kind a signal. Do I need to change options somewhere I havent' thought of yet? This probably sounds so confusing and I appologize, I have been messing with this for a while and now its like 1 in morning so I doubt I make any sense. Well any help is appreciated... and if anyone needs me to clarify or explain in detail about this then I will, in the morning though that way it will make sense :).

Thanks
Dennis

Ok sorry about before I was tired... OK a receiver to me is a home theatre system or amp... basically a stereo. So as far a the signal goes, I dont see a problem there. It's not hooked up directly to my TV cause its about 5 years old and has no S-video only RCA jacks. I didn't want to go get them cables and converters, was trying to go cheap way and just use my Stereo as one. You think that maybe my video card doesn't reconize my receiver? Just wondering if anyone tried it like that or knows of a way for it to work. This is how I have it. I run an S-video cable to my reciever from my vid card. Then an RCA video cable to my TV. I run everything through my receiver. My DVD player VCR... and what ever I select on my Reciever outputs to the TV so I have only one output from my Receiver to my TV and many inputs to my Receiver. I can explain more but I think that maybe you will understand what I am trying to do. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dennis

ok, you use your A/V (Audio/Video) amplifier as a kind of S-VHS/RCA video converter because of your old TV which haven't a S-VHS input.

for a first view, this install seemed to be possible.

This is only possible if the receiver supports down-converting of an s-video signal to composite (RCA). Are any of the other devices you're using inputing an s-video signal to the receiver or are they all RCA? What brand/model receiver are you using? Sometimes a receiver will support up-converting RCA input to an s-video out, but not the other way around.

I thought a thought, but the thought I thought wasn't the thought I thought I had thought.

Do they make adapters that change S-Video to RCA? I have nearly the same problem. My TV does not have S-Video input which is the only thing my computer puts out.

Yes they do. I have one I purchased...can't remember from where...think it was either AllDirect or Sofistic

How well it works I have yet to find out...as I don't have a TV! The plan was to use it to go from my Radeon7500 to my VCR which then goes into my slower PC, but then the faster PC blew (thanks again CNETPC)...and with school starting up, I have to hold the funds back (about $17k back).

If I don't get my 90THz AMD Quadraplex system soon, I'm afraid I may just combust right here.

Here is a website to solve your S-Video to RCA problem...

You can order a converter from this site, looks good to me...

I have a similar problem and have looked around for a S-video to RCA adapter and found one on this site for only $5 much cheaper than anywhere else but I have not tried it yet. http://www.rogerssystems.com/store [...] tegory=335
I would be very interested to hear how it works.

If the thought I thought I thought had been the thought I thought, I wouldn't have thought so much.
