I just purchased a Gigabyte GA-7VRXP mobo. I would like some opinions on what kind of memory you guys would buy. I want to install 512 MB of memory but I'm still not sure what brand name yet or if I should go with PC2700 or go the next step to PC3000. I will be attempting to overclock the CPU which will probably end up being and AMD Athlon 2100 XP. I was looking at Corsair memory and was very impressed with all of the reviews but before i just go listening to reviews I would like your opinions. Thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!!

I was looking on price watch and the cheapest I could find 512MB of Carsair PC2700 CAS2 was about $197.00. Is there anything else out there that comes close to the Corsair performance for a better price. I'm looking to spend maybe $120.00. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

OCZ 512MB, PC2700, CAS2 is $150 at Newegg. I don't think you will find anything lower. $139 for CAS2.5.

Two points for getting Corsair.

A. its the only PC2700 stuff currently thats officially rated for Cas2

B. its also the only stuff that comes out in 512Mb sticks. (and its been shown that using one stick can achieve higher overclocks than 2)

im gonna get it soon too.

Despite appearances im not Phsysic. I may need your system specifications to solve your problem!

P.S. i would reccommend Kingmax, but ive had 1 stick of 256mb PC150 go bad on me for no reason... so im a little pissed off.
Edited by lhgpoobaa on 04/25/02 10:17 PM.

I think I'm gonna go for the OCZ.

1. It's cheaper...$150 compared to almost $200 is a good savings
2. It's rated CAS2 on the official OCZ website
3. By reading reviews I'm only going to see a minimal difference if I use Corsair
4. It still looks cool!!!

I've heard bad things about OCZ's quality control, though. I've talked to people who've gone through 5 sticks before finally getting one that worked at the rated speeds.

Groth2757, Some ugly news regarding OCZ has come to light. Read about it in
xxsk8er101xx's thread, OCZ Exposed. It's not directly related to memory quality but rather the company and affiliated "companies".

Sorry, I didn't know about this stuff earlier.
