More about changing mobo
  1. If you change the CPU you will not have any problems. Changing the motherboard will require a new windows 7 product key.

oh so if i downgrade my 2500k to 2400, no problem?
  3. That shouldn't be a problem. Why are you downgrading, if you don't mind me asking?

  5. You could wait until ivy bridge, if that's the case. Then it would be an upgrade, or worst case 'sidegrade'. Good luck on whatever you decide, though!

Is the windows retail or OEM?

If its OEM its tied to that mobo so you cant change it..... in theory, generally if you change it and then when asked to activate you phone microsoft and explain to them you were changing a faulty mobo they will issue a new code to you.

If it's retail you can change the mobo and use current key.
  7. That's a good idea actually...thanks. :)

  9. You will only need a new key if it is Windows 7 OEM license. If retail you can use the same key.
