Need help with wireless card specs

Hey guys,

I've been planning to buy a wireless card for my desktop for over a year now and I think I'm finally going to go through with it just for the convenience. I'm pretty knowledgeable in hardware with the exception of networking.

I've already decided I want to go the PCI route because I hate having USB devices protruding from my tower. I just need a little guidance with specs. What am I shooting for to get great performance out of a wireless card?

Depending on the distance, interference, and content you will be sending/receiving I would go with a wireless N network card. Secondly, the type of antenna used. I prefer a WNIC that has an external SMA connector so I can connect different types of antennas if needed. So for example if you wanted to use a directional antenna instead of an omni antenna you could swap it out.
