sure those cheese-ball aesthetic minded spoilers tacked all over those wanna-be boy-racer cars are useless except to make the car show up on police radar better...
but a real spoiler most certainly can make a car go faster...especially if you are talking about a car with more horsepower than its aerodynamics can keep stuck to the ground...last thing you want is your car doing the airplane wing thing at high-speed.
Not to menion a bit more down force in the turns lets you carry more speed through the turn, leading to the potential for higher speeds.
the spoiler that pops up on the back of Porsche 911s at 50 mph isn't there to improve the cars visual appeal...
