I just received a Nikon Coolpix3100. It has 3.2 effective megapixels and a 3x zoom. I don't really know which digitals are the best on the market. Is this a good product or should I return it for a similarly priced item? This camera cost $350.00.

Though the Coolpix3100 is not the best digital camera in its price range, it certainly is a decent camera. Personally, I would consider the similarly priced Canon PowerShot A70 which is a great camera. Anyway the Coolpix is nice too, and this review should show it.

I got a coolpix 2500 but that I bought it last year. That time, I was still an amature in photography, so just get that camera with all the auto features. Then when I started to learn about photography, how I wish to get hold on to the more manual camera with shutter speed and apperture controls. Yet those digital cameras with all the manual features are always more expensive.

Another good 3.2 megapixel camera is the Sony P52. Nice mpeg capture w/sound and decent photo quality. All for ~$275.

I'd go for the A70 over the 3100 for a single reason; the 3100 has a severe limit on movie length (20 seconds if memory serves correctly).

Out of whats been mentioned, the A70 is definitely, without a shred of doubt the best camera. The 3100 has a serious problem with battery life. It is a compact camera but with the amount of batteries you'll need to carry, might as well get the bigger a70.

If you want something smaller, the sony P8 has a similar spec and uses li-ion batteries, giving great batterylife. It also takes long movies, if thats relevatn to you. It uses the more expensive memory stick though.

Disregard my previous post.

Why do people always insist on insulting drug dealers by comparing them to Microsoft?
Drug dealers offer real products with real choice.
