I am looking for a pair of noise canceling headphones, or ear bud
types. I want them for flying.

Can anybody recommend any particular models, which I should avoid etc?

I had a pair of the smaller electronic Sony noise cancelling phones. Took
them back. Didn't have good sound cancelling abilities for me nor did I
care for their sound quality in general.

Better were some Etymotic ER-6i canal phones with some custom molds for them
made by an audiologist and sent to Sennsaphonics for the mold. Added
another $130 to the cost of the Etymotics (~$140) but they are extremely
quiet, fit well, can wear them all day, and have nice sound.

What's your budget? I have a pair of Sony NC5's I bought a while back.
They were refurbs, so I paid less than $30 for them. I think they are a
good buy at $30. The head band gets tiriing after a while on these. You
should also remember to bring extra batteries with you, in case the one
in the unit dies.
