I'm having serious audio 'stutter' when playing RtCW, with the game almost coming to a standstill in quite a few scenes.
I have a Celeron-II 766 on a 66MHz FSB (CPU upgraded from Pentium Pro 180), 192 MB, 32 MB Creative GeForce 2 MX PCI, Win2k.
The sound just echoes quite a few times (it progresses ever so slowly, almost hangs), and to me it looks as if this is what is bringing the game to a virtual stop. After a while the game does get going again and is alright then, until a little bit later ... etc. Still have my original Creative SoundBlaster 16 in there, and I'm not sure what the demands of RtCW is on sound cards. Do I need a new sound card to process the sounds quicker, or is something else causing this issue? Any thoughts / suggestions are welcome.
LOL, still running an SB16? Well I'll stop laughing because I still run an AWE32, but only for DOS games. For today's games you really need something faster sitting on the PCI bus. That ancient ISA sound card likely can't handle the data flow required to get decent sound performance in RtCW.
You don't have to discard the SB16, since it'll be more compatible with your DOS games than any PCI card ever will. But if you don't play DOS games anymore and don't intend to, it's high time to take it out of your machine!
