Does anyone know if the Emachines model 600 is compatible with windows 2K/XP? I can't find the info on Emachines Website. Also looking for updated bios/drivers.

Don't know if this helps, but we are running XP on an Emachine 466. Never updated the Bios and the only thing we lost was the use of the little internet and sound level buttons on the Emachine keyboard. We did contact Emachines about it and there reply was that the machine wasn't loaded with XP so we needed to go back to 98se. The wife likes XP and I like the benifits of XP so it's staying with XP. So your 600 should run just fine. Another machine that I have I loaded XP on just to play with is a 300Mhz with 32mb of ram that failed the tests and it's doing fine with XP loaded on it. Never updated the bios either. There is a driver issue on somethings. Microsoft told everyone NOT to update some of the old drivers that way they would sell more products. But there are ways around that also. Thats part of the reason HP is playing with Linux now as an OS right out of the box.

Take a look at the sticker on the back of your keyboard. If it says SK-XXXX (most of these keyboards do) you can download new software that will work with Windows XP.

Ours shows eKB XXXXX. I'll check the site anyways. Thanks maybe this will make some brownie points for future use!

In that case, check the 4-digit number. You may be able to find software that will work the keyboard that way.

My keyboard is a SK-2501 for example. It was labeled as a Lite-on keyboard, but I could not find software for it on Lite-on's website... that's when I did a search on the SK-2501. Found Silitek's site and discovered a lot of keyboards with volume and other controls were actually made by them. Compaq, NEC, and a few others used keybpoards originally manufactured by them. (I hooked up a Compaq keyboard to my computer which has Silitek's software installed and all the functions worked.)
