Too many users connect

router - tenda w311r+
connection speed - 1 mbps
There are too many users who connect on my router like 10 pc's. Does it slow down my internet speed (No one's downloading).

speedtest.net
downspeed : 0.96 mbps
upspeed : .05 mbps
ping: 62 ms (sometimes it goes up to a 100ms +)
what's does the ping means because the down speed is stable?

You would be surprised how much computers download even when the users are not using the Internet! Windows updates, software updates; Windows Vista and 7 even check some Internet site every so many seconds to make sure your Internet connection is still working!
