I use a TDK DA5700 (I know, I know...) as an external master recorder
for my Fostex VF-80. Have had no trouble with the TDK for about two
years.
Now, however, when I am mixing down a recording, I am only able to mix
one song (or use the machine for about twenty minutes, sometimes
shorter) before the TDK begins to "act up". A variety of things, it
bounces out of record mode, etc.
When it does finish a track, I find upon listening to the mixed down
track that it skips, rendering the effort worthless, to say the least.
I find that if I turn off the TDK for about a half an hour and then
power back up, I can get about one song mixed. This is becoming
tedious.
There's nothing wrong with the Fostex.
I guess I have a couple (OK, maybe more) questions:
1) Is this a common problem in older digital recorders?
2) What is the problem?
3) Is it fixable? Is it fixable without spending a lot of money? (i.e.
should I just replace the thing?)
OK, I know the last one was a triple and I cheated...
If anyone can spare me a minute or two, I'm much obliged.
