for desktop, laptop? model number of the system you need a driver for, i.e. dell inspiron 1521 or HP DV4. Drivers are very specific, theres not just one for one thing.

It would be very rare that a serial port driver would be required for a modern version of Windows and a standard rs232 serial port

Does it show up in the 'Device Manager' with an error message ?

usually the Motherboard chipset driver would do the job.

What do you want to connect to the serial port ? ( modem / mouse / instrumentation ?)
