Windows 7 will not allow me to create a restore point

You can follow the steps in the following KB article and see if it resets the permissions properly.

To find out exactly what directory/registry setting is getting access denied, you could run Process Monitor and then during the backup and look at the log file to see if you find Access Denied.

thank you. I went to the site you suggested. All they have offered so far is instructions on how to create a restore point. My problem is that my new Dell computer will not allow me to do this. It keeps telling me that access is denied. I tried contacting Dell, and they want $129 to fix this. Unbelievable since this computer is only a couple of months old.

try recovery console using OS dvd! repair OS! and try again!

ok you try those first & then try recovery console & reinstall OS etc.

why do you want to use restore points in the first place? most useless thing ever from what iv seen, i disable that crap and my system is quicker, i reinstall if i have any hassles

I did use the recovery CD and it worked one time. Now it won't.

I have found creating a restore point every morning, protects me from bad events later in the day from happening.

It is a simple work flow that can really help if need be.
