Rebuilding a Compaq

I was given a Compaq 5000 series (model 5wv254); PS and HD dead. Mobo is a Fic Az31 Uwave (OEM). Diagrams in manual pulled from Fic's web site shows that the OEM mobo lacks: case fan connector, over-voltage jumper, and Novus II jumper. There's one other difference that has me quite confused - the standard board accepts 1.5G Ram (3x512), while the OEM only accepts 768M. The Compaq manual doesn't state max Ram size but read 256M somewhere, while the Fic manual says 512M. While it makes sense that 3x256=768, does it also mean that a config of 512+128+128 won't work? Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the mobo specs/manual for this bastardized board? Compaq's web site has very little useful data (that I could find).

Other questions regarding parts needed: 2x256 Pc133 (Cas=2), 80G HD, and new PS. Memory will be Crucial, however NewEgg has same model sticks for few $ less (OEM). Is there much difference between sticks directly from Crucial versus OEM? OC'ing doesn't look promising with this mobo. If the board accepts 512M sticks, I'd rather go that route.

Fic's manual says max Cpu is 1G Athlon, Compaq say 1.3G, and I've read on Compaq's community board of users with 1.4G. Which to believe? Does anyone know the max config for this model (aka "What's in your 5wv box" )?

The wattage of the new PS is highly dependant upon the above (I'd like to upgrade Cpu). The pc came with a 250W PS and 700Mhz Duron. I figure I could get by with a 350W PS (Enermax) but would a 431W be better? It's a small case; 2x5.25,3x3.5,2HD(vertical). Without knowing the mobo better, I've been leaning towards an Enermax EG365P-VE (FM) as I don't know if a PS with more features would be supported.

There's not much room for the HDs, so instead of 2x40G, I figure 1x80G+HD cooler. What brand HD? IBM 120GXP was first choice. However, with reports of earlier model GXP drives being unreliable, IBM doesn't look like a good buy. Second choice is Western Digital's WD800BB. Any opinions of these two? Is there a better brand?
