I am doing a motherboard upgrade for a friend. I need to know how I can move his hard drive with his current OS instal to the new motherboard without having to do a fresh Windows 7 install. He has too much that cannot be replaced. Is there a way to do this?

Just backup all files on another hard hdd/usb/dvd. Make a new install on your current HDD. Only way to do a fresh install of windows 7

Unless you replacing the mainboard with the same make/model you will have to do a fresh install there is really no way around it. I have even seen Windows 7 fail to boot when replacing a mainboard with the same make/model but newer revision. As stated by Redmar89 backup all important files then do a fresh install. Any programs will need to be reinstalled. Good luck.
