I just burn the .wav files in CD so that it can play in any regular CD
players (computer-based, car, etc...). The intersting observation is
that
the maximum number of tracks is 27, no matter how big the total file
sizes.
My question is if CD has maximum 27 tracks? or I can adjust.

Please advise. thanks!!

No. Several CDs I own has 99 tracks, which is probably max, but I'm
not sure.

Only 99 audio tracks
See Red Book specifications.
(Use Google or other for that)

The CD specs provide for up to 99 tracks per disc (and up to 99 index points
per track).

I have some sound effects CD's that have over 100 tracks on them. I don't know
if they're .wav's or .mp3's.

Then they are data, not audio CD's.

Music CDs can have up to 99 tracks, but some players cannot be
programed for more than 20 or so tracks.

Your burning program or the player may have a problem beyond 27, but
the format doesn't.

Yes, and some bands (like Cracker) stick lots and lots of blank
tracks at the end of their CD's, using up all 99, so they
can "hide" a couple of extra tracks amongst them.

I guess it seemed nifty as hell when they were stoned, but
I've just been ripping my collection and got really annoyed when
I had to clean up directories full of mostly blank files.
