Black screen with pointer

My mom was having an issue where she could not log in it just went to a black screen and a pointer. I was wondering if there is anything you guys can say to help me fix it.

i have a Hp Pavilion g6 it use to start normally now it does this i need help i can do anything i dont know what to do and im scared

Can you get into safemode ? OEM or have a windows 7 CD ?
