I'm considering a 550 watt ps. I'll have an athlon 2100, two hard drives, a high end video card, maybe five fans (including cpu and case fans), sound card and 512 megs. Is it possible to have too much power? I'm guessing the more watts the better. Is this a "newbie" assumption?

No it will only use what the system needs but this will give you plenty of headroom for
later upgrades.

I also have the Enermax 550w and that is the reason I bought it. You are on the right track.

Keep in mind that you'd never want your power supply at 100%.

thanx arrow...I'm hoping 550 watts will be all I ever need. I haven't seen ps more powerful than that or I haven't been looking in the right places =)

I think Enermax makes a 650.

I can't think of a good signature so I'll use this one.

Yep. Here it is:

I wouldn't necessarily buy it from here, though.

"I'm guessing the more watts the better"

Yep. But on the other hand, not necessarily "the more volts the better". I've tried running a 12v fan at 17 volts. I was wearing eye protection at the time, too.

I use a 500watt psu. It's no enermax (silent), but it's a stable supply. The fans are quiet, and I picked it up for $74 including s/h.
