When charging laptop, sound does not work.

Hello,
Yesterday I was trying to skype but my head phones were not working. So after plugging them in all of a sudden a loud screeching noise came from the laptop. So here is my situation now and its weird and I am absolutely clueless:

When Laptop is plugged in charging:
I can only hear sound when the volume is very low. When I turn up the volume loud screeching noise goes off

When Laptop is not plugged in:
Sound works on loud and everything works

What could possible be the problem? I am a noob so please no crazy computer lingo
