I gotta say that OpenOffice frankly sucks. We switched to it at work only to find that we had to switch back. It has this wonderful quality of sometimes working and frequently screwing up formatting. The Gimp is great though. I have been using that thing forever and can't really complain.

yeah well i thought it sucked at first too.....only because i didn't know where half the functions were.

once i realised that Open Office can insert any image format that Gimp can (i think) it saved me huge amounts of time converting image formats...

in the long run Open Office for me is more powerful than Word. and once i know how to use it i will take heaps of stuff for granted, and try to go Word then die trying to use it LOL.

i use Gimp (2.0 now) and photoshop. they are both different and both suited to different things. a photoshop user will have a cry trying to use the gimp at first, but give then 2 weeks to work out the features in the gimp that PS doesn't have and you will have someone who doesn't like somthing about PS.

goes back to writing his 3rd essay exclusivly done in Open Office (yes with complex formating and image/text wrapping etc....) designers need swanky essays.

It isn't so much that I don't know how to use it, it's *nearly* implicit. Try writing an engineering assessment in it and sending it to the state engineer (who only uses Word). You'll nearly get laughed out of town when he opens it and many of the elements are missing or misformatted. If everyone used OpenOffice it wouldn't be a problem, but it is kind of like owning the ONLY fax machine; it won't do you any good.

Ok I'll put this simply - Did I ask for Open Office or photoshop or any other software - why do people normally want to crack software - think pal come on brain in gear before typing. I don't want microsoft to know I've registered my copy of Office XP 5 times and still counting.... I put my email on there so the culprit who sends me the crack doesn't announce him/herself publicly.

What exactly are you doing with a pirated piece of software if you don't even know how to "crack" it? The information you are looking for isn't difficult to find if you have any motovation to simply look or any capacity to learn.
