Howdy, I've been using Alcatels, but I'm thinking of getting an Ericsson -
thinking of getting a K700i... I was just wondering what the reception's
like on these. Also we're getting a 3G network in NZ next year - should I
getting a new phone now, or wait till next year for the 3G phones?

I was actually looking at the Z1010's, but you can't get them in NZ yet...

Wait for 3G deployment and confirm the network's new 3G protocol and
frequency.

Ericsson's been doing wonders with their radios lately. The Z600 and
K700i are much more reliable than the T610 and T68i was. The K700i can
actually hang with a Nokia 6310i I have, believe it or not.

The SE Z1010 is available, it is about US$1100 for me here in the United
States, and not particularly attractive as my operator doesn't support
such things.

If you don't change handsets often, you may well want to wait if you're
happy with what you've got. I end up getting two handsets a year on
average, sometimes more. So I wouldn't think twice about buying a K700i
if I had been using another one for six months or so.

YMMV, of course!

I will say that if you've shied away from ERICY because of poor radios
and performance, they apparently figured out how to make a proper radio!
