120gxp and accoustic management

i was a bit dismaid at the noise of the 120gxp when i first bought it so after a little researcg downloaded ibm tools and changed the acoustic properties of the drive.. moving the slider all the way to the left(quiet mode).
How much will this effect the performance of the drive... and in changing the way it works will i be in anyway endangering the drive??

I don't think it'll endanger the drive, but I'm sure it'll decrease performance. Just do benchmarks at quietest, loudest and midway between and find the happy medium.

Can you reccommend a good harddrive benchmarking app?

Try HDTach.

I notice quite a difference between maximum speed and maximum quietness.
