i'm thinking of getting a field recording unit for two purposes:

1) street interviews

2) creating high quality stereo records of environmental sounds, like
ocean waves, thunderstorms, birds chirping at sunrise, etc.

i would want to transfer these recordings to my workstation for editing.

i'm a novice to this, and would appreciate any recommendations on
hardware, media type, etc. any suggestions?

thanks!
