I am a newbie with microphones. I need to get one for learning a
Foreign language with Rosettastone products. I will be using it in a
quiet home environment on a XP home machine.
I would appreciate any recommendations. If this is a wrong group can
anybody point me in the right group.

Any 'multi-media' mic you can buy at a computer store should be adequate for
your purpose.
Would you recommend any particular brand considering the
price/performance ratio.
I looked at Plantronics,Labtec,Midiland FD-02 Goose Neck,Cyber
Acoustics Desktop Standing Microphone,Altec Lansing Stereo Headset with
Microphone,Iconcepts Multimedia Headset w/ Microphone. The prices range
from 7$ to 70$. Will the cheaper equipment be as good as the costly
ones for my purpose. I am sorry if the question is wrong but the store
people were trying to sell me the costly ones saying that would be much
better for me as I did not have much knowledge.

Get the $7 one. It will probably be fine. If it isn't, you're
only out $7.
